We are always available to give you a tour of our property at Mariners Landing Resort at Smith Mountain Lake.
Right now you may be wondering whether or not a destination wedding is right for you. While a wedding in the Caribbean may be a dream come true for many, you have to ask yourself is it for you. Often, couples choose to have a destination wedding because the location is personally significant. Perhaps the two of you first realized you were in love on vacation in the Caribbean. Perhaps he popped the question during that week-long cruise you two took together. In addition to personal significance, many couples choose to have a destination wedding simply for the romance of travel. Sometimes the decision is made because there is a need to escape. Perhaps you have already started planning a traditional wedding in the states and found it is not what you want. UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE WEDDING EXPERIENCE A destination wedding allows for creativity reflecting the tastes and styles of you and your fiance. You can have a religious ceremony and traditional wedding if you want or do something different and make it completely your own. Even if your tastes are traditional, a destination wedding will be unlike any other wedding. 2. ONCE IN A LIFETIME REUNION Imagine having close friends and family from each stage of your life in one magical place for the purpose of celebrating you and your love. Coming from around the country, or even the globe, your wedding will not only be a vacation for many, but also a reunion. 3. ONE-ON-ONE TIME WITH GUESTS Destinations tend to be smaller, more intimate events. They also tend to last a few days, giving you and your intended plenty of opportunity to spend time with your guests. Although not all of your invited guests will be able to travel due to scheduling and budgetary concerns, those who can attend interact more with each other and their hosts than at a traditional wedding. 4. COST EFFECTIVENESS As the guest list shrinks, so will your costs. Alternatively, as the guest list shrinks, you may be able to spend more for a lavish event. 5. GROOMS LIKE TO GET INVOLVED Whether it is deciding on gift bags or coordinating guest outings, grooms seem to be more involved in destination wedding planning. Specifically, grooms enjoy organizing the smaller events such as day outings and happy hour mixers. 6. START THE HONEYMOON EARLY The honeymoon starts as soon as you are pronounced husband and wife. Once your guests have left island, stay a few days and honeymoon, or if you are on a cruise ship, sail into the sunset. Because you have already arrived at your honeymoon destination, you can consider the transportation expenses associated with honeymoon travel already paid. 7. GREAT PHOTOS Imagine the photo album, straight out of a magazine, that you and your intended will enjoy forever.

I really like what you said about how destination weddings tend to be smaller, more intimate events. My sister is getting married and recently mentioned to me how she'd prefer to make it a destination wedding since she's easily overwhelmed by large groups. What you said about having more time with the guests one-on-one and interact more with each other and the happy couple was very interesting to me.

I liked how you said that destination weddings tend to be more intimate and smaller giving you the opportunity to have more one-on-one time with guests. My friend was telling me that she was thinking about having a destination wedding, but she wasn't sure if it would be the right choice for her. I think that she would really like the intimate aspect of it and the idea that it could help her to keep it simple, or at least the guest list simple.

I like how you said that a destination wedding allows you to be more creative with your plans. My fiance and I are getting ready to pick out a venue. We were going to get married last year but COVID-19 ruined that so hopefully we can find a place that has less restrictions and get married there.
